JESSICA FERGUSON ELEVATES MUSIC WITH GIRL POWER

ezo-jessica-ferguson

Aside from another young pop singers Jessica Ferguson wields a sense of consciousness that’s evident in both her demeanor and music. With a hypnotic delivery the young songstress has a sparkle that slowly draws you in, and before you know it your unconsciously boppin’ to her music. Her quintessential sound is one that you’d find in any setting walking in a mall, at a house party or on your local radio station. At first listen, its more than clear that Ferguson’s approach to a recording a track is special, not rushed or delayed but timed perfect. The comfort behind the melodies, and the familiarity in her vocals allows the listener to relax and fall head first into the record.

Her most recent demonstration of this is the song “Rockstar”. A mix of various abstract sounds, that are mixed together into a audio master piece. Similar to a Jackson Pollack painting, “Rockstar” can be analyzed in the same way. Sharp snares, long baselines, and various other odd sounds all blended together by her smooth vocals into a beautiful work of art that you can feel. Just as important as the sound of her music listener can tell that she’s just as concerned with the content. Melodies of love, life, self-esteem, and girl power, are just some of the messages she has to share.

With a perfect balance of originality, and familiarity Ferguson has set herself apart from all that has saturated the pop market already. EZO recently caught up with the young Texan to discuss everything from twitter to life in the big state.

What’s the rock/pop scene like in Houston TX?

It’s pretty good. There is a lot of opportunity and we have had great artist come out of Houston.

What inspired you to do a song like “Rockstar”?

“Rockstar” was written with singer/songwriter Brittany Smith. The initial reason when writing this was to come out with a song that was fun, upbeat and exciting; something you could dance to, but something that also had a meaning behind it.

How would you describe your sound?

I would describe my sound as pop/rock inspiration.

Your music has a strong dance vibe to it, would you attribute that to your back round as a dancer?

Absolutely! I have always had a love for dance, and just for pure entertainment! I really strive to have music that is entertaining and that I can dance to and that can hopefully get people up and dancing as well!

Who/what kind of music do you listen to?

I honestly listen to ALL genres of music! I am from Texas so of course I listen to country! I love how Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift have been able to cross over with their country music into the pop world. My background is musical theatre so I have a ton of Barbara Streisand Cds! I also really like jazz, one of my favorite artists is Eva Cassidy. Michael Jackson, Beyonce, JLo, they have all been inspirations for me with both their music and the way they entertain when performing! When I was growing up the artist I really looked up to and enjoyed was Britney Spears, because of her way that she was able to captivate the audience through the blend of her music and dance! I also love Natasha Beddingfield and all of her music and all of the words that go with it! I love listening to all kinds of music because I really feel that it is such good training for the ear!

Explain Jessica Ferguson’s creative process in the studio…

I really like to be a part of the creative process with my music. I will be the first to admit I am not able to sit down and write a full song by myself, and I am so thankful and feel so blessed for having the help that I have had with all the great songwriters and producers that have been involved with my project. I love getting in the studio and being surrounded by all of that talent and I really learn so much from it. It’s always so much fun being in the studio because I feel like a sponge soaking everything in! And to see something start from scratch and work and work at it till it becomes a success is such a great feeling!

Which producers would you like to work with?

I have been so fortunate to work with award winning producer Andrew Lane who has worked on Highschool Musical and numerous other artists as well. He has been such an inspiration to me and has taught me so much! I would really love to work with Ryan Tedder, Sean Garrett, Rodney Jerkins or Kara DioGuardi…just to name a few!

Describe what would be your dream project?

Right now, it would be to open for someone, ANYONE!!! I would really love to open for someone like Jesse McCartney! I love his style both music and performance!

So far, what’s the been the toughest thing about pursuing a music career full time?

I would say that the toughest thing so far has been really taking care of “my instrument.” We, as singers, are walking around with our instrument in our body and it’s not something that we can set down and then pick up when we need it, it’s something that we use 24/7 and a lot of the traveling and long hours can be hard on it…so I have really had to learn how to take care of my voice more than ever before!

What impression would you like to leave on the music world?

I hope to leave the impression of that I brought entertainment and enjoyment to the listener.

What’s your take on the new “Twitter” phenomenon?

I have to say at first I didn’t really understand the whole Twitter thing, BUT once I figured out what it was and how to work it, it actually caught my attention! I have a twitter, LoveJessica101, Follow me please! Hahah and what I really love about it is it’s an easy way to leave a nice quote or something inspirational for people to pick up and read throughout the day, and that’s really what I love use it as!
